Have you ever tried running a GTX Titan X on a ThinkPad T61? I sure have!ĭisplayLink as a concept is just bad, the driver stack is beyond broken and Windows itself doesn't seem too happy at handling very high bandwidth down the USB controllers for a sustained period, leading to unpredictable behaviors and crashes. Slap your laptop on the dock, it's charging, your peripherals all get connected, the works. When docking connectors were commonplace, surprisingly enough things worked, and worked well. In the endless pursuit for the thinnest and lightest possible laptops, this industry appears to have regressed considerably. USB docks have always been shit and quite frankly I expect them to continue to be shit forever. I don't think this is just a Dell problem. After the holidays I don't want to come to work dealing with my own issues like this after having a reliable setup until today. Give that same dock to another user and issues completely resolved for that person so it's not a dock problem as far as I can tell. I swap the dock and a few have issues completely resolved. BIOS updated, reinstall/repair driver, redocking, ect still doesn't fix the issue for 1/3 of the users and even if it does, it happens again. Nothing resolves it most of the time either.

We had a straight mobo connection dock solution and they changed everything and can't even make it work reliably. When typing, keys get stuck (not due to sticky keys).

Not powering the laptop requiring a redock. Disconnect all together requiring a redock. Keyboard and mouse (general USB devices as well) will not stay reliably connected. They have been nothing but problems! We only have about 80ish employees but I would say 1/5 of them constantly have docking issues. Why can't Dell figure out there dock drivers?! Starting this year my company got new dells with the USB C dock port and dock.
